Don’t butt slap a hippo, it’s dangerous
I never get it when people say going to the zoo is fun.
Fun?!
Watching grownups fight over parking spots at Walmart IS FUN.
What's fun about being three feet away from a pride of lions?
Or worse, snakes!
And don't say it's educating, either.
That's why we've got Nat Geo - to learn about animals without getting mauled by a chimp.
Despite how I don't fancy visiting zoos, I find something about them interesting.
THEIR WARNING SIGNS.
These signs are pretty commonplace in zoos.
"WARNING. DANGEROUS ANIMALS. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH OR TEASE."
Actually I thought no one needed to be told to not mess with wild animals.
But I was wrong.
Turns out some of the accidents that happen in zoos are avoidable if people just act right.
Like…
A man who got attacked by squirrel monkeys when he broke into their enclosure and tried to steal one for his girlfriend*.
He escaped with a broken leg, sprained ankle, and no pet monkey.
(*Even Romeo won't have done that for Juliet.)
Zoos spend resources trying to tell people, "don't butt slap a hippo*. It's dangerous."
Yet humans still act like… well… humans.
This is why some messages are worth repeating until people "get it."
And why it's okay to send an email with the same takeaway as one you've sent before.
So consider this another reminder to set up a welcome flow for your ecom brand.
And if you think, "do people still need to be told to set one up?"
You'll be shocked at how many brands still don't have one.
PS. *Yup, it's happened before.
A man once broke into a hippo enclosure to - get this - butt slap a hippo.
He succeeded without getting injured, lucky bastard.
